Small washing machine
Just looking around in the shops/stores for a small clothes washing machine. Using the bucket, whilst effective, is getting old. I just want something that will will clean small loads quickly and efficiently..
It wont be a fixed installation, and will be put away after use.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Re: Small washing machine
Thanks for that
I forgot to mention it has to be 12v or 230 volt European.....
Will go look into the Panda and see if there is euro equivalent.

Re: Small washing machine
What dimensions are you working with? I ask because my MIL has a small washer in her flat. Same width as standard kitchen cabinets (70x60cm) but is only 40cm deep. Manages about 6kg.

Re: Small washing machine
We, or should I say the wife uses a "Wonder Wash" and she loves it for use and ability to pack it away after use..
When away for any land based, we find that very little needs to be washed and one load per day or two keeps us in clean cloths.. and then when we do pull in someplace and find a laundromat, well do the bedding.................
Using the wonder wash, Ramona has found that you spin it a few times, let it set for about 5 minutes and spin it again.. letting it set and brew for a few minutes seems to work well....

Re: Small washing machine
There are many manual washing alternatives including one where you fill a ball and let it roll around the cockpit while underway or tie it up and toss it overboard.
What I have been looking for is a hand cranked spin dryer. Harder to find. There are the old fashioned hand crank wringers like my Mom used to use but even the best one I could find had some iron susceptible to rusting - the ad copy even admits that! Wringing is better, I think but the roller shafts are iron while the frame is zinc coated. Not even sure how long that would last in a salt water environment. Hand wringing gets some water out but in a high humidity environment it could take some time to dry clothes, I imagine.
There are small electric washers and spin dryers but I wonder about electricity consumption - I really don't want to add to the daily load just for washing the unmentionables.
What are other folks doing for the drying part of the process?

We found a small plastic automatic washing machine when we first arrived in Greece and it has been great. However it doesn't spin. This year we bought a domestic spin dryer, 240 volt, 400watt. It runs off the inverter and spins at 2800rpm - clothes are almost dry when they come out and wash day is now even easier!

Nope. The Jeanneau 53 comes prepared for an installation of a full size washing machine in the master cabin but since the Admiral wants to keep some space for her hanging wardrobe the DAEWOO would fit quite nicely

Re: Small washing machine
Hi just bought a Candy 1140 aquamatic in Gibraltar for £525, it's a 4kg compact front loading machine, fits perfectly in the closet in fwd cabin on my Jeanneau 50DS

We used to use this spin drier: Portable Clothes Dryer | Apartment Size Washer and Dryer | Portable Washing Machine - Laundry Alternative
It does an excellent job and is miserly with electricity. Running on the inverter, it drew 6-7 amps DC for the 2 minutes it spun.
So for electricity consumption, 30 loads uses 6-7 amps from your batteries. Or from the opposite perspective, a single load uses <0.25 amps DC.

Re: Small washing machine
We bought the EXACT copy of the PANDA above here Weavis.
We are a 230v 50Hz boat, but we also bought a 1000va 120->240 or 240->120 volt transformer. The 50 vs. 60 cycles makes not a jot of difference.
It cost us US$ 99.00 in "Do-It Center Panama"
We only use Ammonia to wash with, no detergent, and there is no need to rinse now, we wash, spin, hang, and that's it!
