Re: Single Men Living Aboard and Cruising... an honest look.

IMHO there is more to a boat than sailing away to tropical dreams and beautiful girls/boys.

Just imagine you get a boat and cruise locally.

The world is beautiful and full of inspiration everywhere. One can as well anchor in a nice place and spend lifetime reading books, playing music or just trekking the shore or meeting new people. There is more to cruising than moving on. It's more about the mindset than the miles sailed.

Cheers,
b.

If your cruising dreams are driven by hormones, it is likely that your cruising will not really be fulfilling. The cruising adventure can be realized anywhere. It is a very personal achievement. That's my story!

Dump the project boat! Buy a boat that is nearly ready (fix her up quickly) and go sailing. That is the only way you will meet others the love to sail and will be willing to share your lifestyle.

Bingo....
The famous "project boat" has killed more cruising dreams than it has enabled.

What, exactly, is a project boat? If it floats and has sails, then the rest can be done WHILE sailing can't it? Isn't that the point of a sailboat? SAIL? So, a "project" wouldn't float or wouldn't have sails, right?
Whats the point of getting one of those?

Re: Single Men Living Aboard and Cruising... an honest look.

Don't think it's as much the "project boat" that is the problem as it is the "project mentality". Some people just wouldn't splash unless and until every nook and cranny is spotless and sparkling, every issue, down to matching sail ties is addressed and every possible minor imperfection is rectified. But since even new boats, especially in the range of under $500K, don't come in such condition, these people end up doing their never ending projects instead of sailing.

I realized this 10-11 years ago when at a brand specific forum I proudly showed the photos of my $400 27 footer which took me "only" 1 year to get from its "project condition" to splashing (and that was a year only because of 6 months of winter and the fact that it was in a friend's yard 45 miles away and I was there not even every weekend), to other forum users, some of them the proverbial project enthusiasts, and they replied in all seriousness if I plan to splash such "unfinished" boat or was just pulling their leg about splashing her. 5 years later, when I sold her after getting a bigger boat, these same people were still putzing around their "projects" dreaming to splash "next year". I bet they're still at it, touching up "just one more thing" before being done.

All part of boating. We all get what we want, not what we say we want.

Blasphemy I say!!!

The cruising world is only about size 2 and 4 bikinis that fit tight and barely cover.

Seriously - loved your full post.

Lots of singles out there looking to sail if you are social and not a jerk.

Yes - the boat needs to be in good condition unless your partner is into fixer uppers like yourself.

Re: Single Men Living Aboard and Cruising... an honest look.

Hi, No BS please. I am leaving to go south in two months alone on a 42' cruiser. I am satisfied to be alone but I do get on occasion lonely. I think I'd like to find someone with the same aspirations to cruise fulltime but as of yet have met no one. I am 53, not unattractive, and the boat is in good shape. What expectation should I have to meet a woman?

Thanks

I'm Married and have been for ever so I do not speak from experience, but I'd answer that if you meet Women while being ashore and have dates, then you will when cruising, if you don't, I don't think a boat will change that

My experience is there are lots of women that want to go cruising BUT there aren't lots of women that want to keep cruising indefinitely.

expectations yield disappointment and short duration relationships, as no one can live up to your expectations. .
