By chance, the sailor anchored nex door, on a home made trimaran from San Diego, was a vet. He offered to fix our problem for free. Everything went A1. But not only he was a good vet, but also a friendly one legged Scot (I think, he had lost his leg under a streetcar in Edinburgh when he was young) who played the bagpipes: Every day, when the sun was setting, he would walk up front his trimaran & played the bagpipe 'till the sun had finally disappeared under the lukewarm water of the Pacific Ocean! I still have goosebumps when I recall those lovely evenings... All this to say that he also, had one of the 5 most beautiful ladies I came across in my life, half Asian, half God knows what I told that story somewhere else on Cruisers Forum, but I think it's worth saying it again. You don't need to be very rich to be happy, just be a nice guy & you're bound to cross the path of one friendly lady, be it in an anchorage, a marina, internet or... ???

A story absolutely worth repeating! It's also gotta be true. I mean, who could possibly make up a story about a one-legged, bagpipe-playing Scottish veterinarian who sails a homemade trimaran with gorgeous women following him around?!

This is one of the reasons I live aboard. Some doofus inconsiderate fellow mariner pulls in and ruins the anchorage ambiance at sunset with a fricken bagpipe! Lousy guitar strumming is bad enough but a bagpipe? Better more cowbell! Michael can row that boat ashore without a bagpipe.

At least with a boat you can get away from the annoyance but why should you have to move on because some FNG comes in with a bagpipe? Sunset is a quiet contemplative time. A time for a smoke or a toke. My nearest neighbor reads on his quarterdeck while enjoying a cigar. Yes, he has a quarterdeck. He may be reading the Bible for all I know or care, but what he isn't doing is annoying anyone with a bagpipe. Better a screechy chalkboard!



Don't get me started on anchorage annoyances. I have a scary-looking black rifle. I wouldn't actually kill a guy for playing a bagpipe but I'll bet I can hit that bag from 200 yards. You want to play something at sunset? How about Mozart's Violin Concerto ... on a violin. And it better be good. Otherwise confine yerself to yer miserable quarters mate, with yer companionway shut.

Have you tried playing a bagpipe inside? You'd go deaf! No, it's proper place is above deck. You'd be surprised how many pipers there are on boats. Thank god for Newfies.

Of course, you're probably one of those curmudgeonly types who hate all the conch-horn blowers too.

How about gun control ? How about Handel's Grande Sarabande ? How about you anchor windward of the reefs as a category 5 hurricane zero in on you ? How about Pachelbel's Canon ? Shubert's opus 100 ?
