Setting sail sooner than expected
Hello all,
As my name implied I was planning to set sail in 2009 ... Well, I found my dream boat, purchased her and sailed her to Norway. My original plan was to spend a year getting the boat (and myself) ready for the circumnavigation, while I worked to make money. Norway is getting colder and wetter and on top of that the days are getting shorter. My solution is simple: I'm setting sail now. 1 week ago I made up my mind and in another week I'll set sail for Gran Canaria. The plan is to sail across the Atlantic at the same time as the ARC. I would take part, but they are completely full and you can't even get on the waiting list. The question everyone asks me: Are you and the boat ready? My answer is: The boat only needs some minor tweaking and I will learn to master her along the way. I know how to sail, but I'm not super experienced with multi-hulls. Along the way I need to find a new girlfriend and make some money. The latter I'm planning to solve by doing some chartering in the Caribbean, the first I'm sure will work out as well.
So yeah, I should change my name to SettingSail2008.

One way or another the hardest part is making that first day happen. After that it get much easier.

I'm defintiely experiencing how hard it can be right now, but like you say, once I've done it, I'll be very happy.

Just that thought will help me add at least another knot to the speed across the pond
See you in the Leewards.

Go,Go, GO. So envious.
Plan for lots of alternate destinations though, those Hurricanes in the gulf end up in the UK about a fortnight later.
If you get up the Southampton Water I'd love to met up. Planning the same my-self.
A Good boat should tolerate novices and respond as you get used to her.
UK summer has been much the same, still land-locked though.

As my friends aren't sailors, you might be able to send me some suggestions for where to dock (for as reasonably as possible) in Southampton.

Congrats Andreas! You are one of the very few who have actually moved their departure date forward - I am sure that you won't regret it.

Hi Brad,
I'll tell you if I regret it when I get to the Caribbean

Start from Canaria one day before ARC then you have all security just behind you
I understand that you like your boat then, how many are you from the start on the boat.
Tell us if/when you start a blog/website.
Good luck

GREAT!,
Most run across delays, so this is good news. If you are depending on chartering as an income. That might be tough, but with your luck. It just might work out for you.......BEST WISHES in continued success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure your girlfriend is rich, or has a rich daddy, so you won't need to charter.

If you find the girlfriend on the way across the Atlantic, make sure she has legs and not a flipper.

Right now I'm nr. 26 on their waiting list and from what I gather from them I won't be a part of the ARC. If that turns out to be true, I'll sail a day or two before them and have St. Lucia to myself for a few days.

When we set sail from Norway we'll be 3 onboard, but the two of them will leave and I'm hoping to recruit other friends to take part in the journey down to Gran Canaria. So far I've had a lot of interest in the leg across the Atlantic, with 5 of my friends working on making it happen.

I already have a blog: www.julseth.com but it's more of a traveling blog than anything else. I'm working on making a sailing blog for the boat. As soon as it is up and running I'll post the URL.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and seeing what I can cook up. I've made some interesting contacts that might net me some charters. We'll see.
