Semi-Liveaboard ?
I just bought a 1992 Beneteau 41 in St. Martin! Went down for sea trials and to sign the paperwork and now she's mine. Now it looks as though I'll stay working in Alaska, leave the boat on the hard during hurricane season, then "liveaboard" during the long Alaska winter. I "quoted" the liveaboard because I'll continue to work in AK and R&R on the boat. Life is looking good. I may be dirt poor, but my new saying is, "If not now, then when?"

Any St. Martians here??

This is a great Forum and I'm learning a LOT here.

congrats on the new boat, and welcome to the forum.

semi-liveaboard? Surely someone can come up with at better term than that. "Cruiser" comes to mind. (And there are bunches of people out there who live on their boats part of the time. )

Maybe "half and half'ers" or "6 on and off-ers" or "just plain smart," In any case folks in that same category make up a significant (IMHO - 1/3 to 1/2) of the cruisers out here in the Caribbean and elsewhere in the world. The other group is almost all "retirees" from the working world - some early and some full term retirees.

Alaska... I'm thinking it's 3 months Work...and 9 months to warm back up. Even Summer is cold in Northern Alaska!!!!

Congrats on the purchase! You will find many here that are envious of your situation!

Count me Green.
