We have a dog who barks at all the passing by boats that he doesn't know, and some of the boats he knows tease him when they pass. He is a small stocky build english
stafordshire bull terrier (big head
and teeth, small body and no fear). Keeps our boat safe and us safe in town. And he is quicker to get out of bed
and start barking at the darkness if he hears a strange sound (early alert system). Also gonna get a couple tazers to keep close in case someone tries to jump in our hatch
. 1 million volts below the waist will makes most people leave in a hurry (if the dog doesn't scare them first).
Other than that we try not to anchor
places that are known to be bad, and we try not to look like the nicest boat or easiest target in the anchorage.
