San Diego Liveaboard Moorings

There are several threads on this but they are all several years older.

I sent an email to the San Diego Mooring Company requesting the following information:

1) Is there a wait list for the mooring fields? If so, do you mind providing the wait times?

2) Are liveaboards allowed?

3) Are there dinghy rights in any of the marinas for the mooring field?

Here is the response that I received back:

Quote:
Yes there is a wait list and the shortest (depending on boat size) is Downtown (2-4 months).
We do not allow for live aboard on the moorings.
Some marinas allow for renting dinghy space.
America’s Cup Harbor and Downtown mooring fields have public dinghy docks.
Coronado and Shelter Island only have a private chain on the beach in front of the moored boats.

I didn't want to press the issue over email but it seems as if there are people living in the mooring fields in San Diego. Is it just something that isn't enforced?

Anyone know of the marinas that rent dinghy spaces and what the rate is?

Thanks in advance!

Re: San Diego Liveaboard Moorings

there is yes an anti liveaboard clause in the moorings contracts. not that anyone follows it--folks living on moored boats have a donot ask donot tell policy.
there is await list for moorings in san diego bay. temporary moorings are rented at double the monthly rate of a permanent mooring.
dinghy dock is the only amenity.
the 2 roadstead mooring areas , rock n roll hell, aka shelter island, and coronado tidelands, have beach landings and a cable to which you lock your dinghy.
