Not entirely sure what I am going to use for a name yet, but if I do go with Stardust this is what the YouTube intro is going to look like before every episode...

I figured it was a fitting name to use because in the music you hear that is my grandpa playing Stardust on the Trumpet.

Here's a thought for you to have your name unique and still a reference to your Grandfather's trumpet tune. The actual name of the Hoagie Carmichael song is "Stardust Melody".

I know that it's longer and it may not fit your transom as well, but it's specific to the music and won't be confused with Carl Sagan's matter of the universe.

I am one of those who thinks a name should reflect something personally significant to the owner, Stardust is nice but I like Stardust Melody too!

Well I got it figured out.



The band name was the Melodaires. I was going to build a boat eventually and call it the Melodaire, if that one gets built it will just have to be the Melodaire II

For the first project I am going to wind up tackling on the boat is I need to install a heater. And probably an AC unit since I want to travel to tropical destinations.

Our experience, Nick, was that if you have large hatches and a wind scoop or two, mostly you do just fine in tropical areas. Generally there are soft night breezes.

I'd wait and see if you really need anything more than the above plus a few Caframo fans to circulate air, either cool or warm. Caframo because they are easiest to keep clean, and you can buy a couple of spare sets of blades, and well priced, imho. We have no other connection with them than using their products.

Actually, it's a good idea to spend a year on the boat before making large dollar modifications to it, just as a rule of thumb. Of course you want to give your new girl pressies, but hold off on making changes till you've learned her ways.

16000 Btu, 110V, Self Contained Marine Air Conditioner System. Best marine air conditioner for cabin cruisers, sail boats, yachts and house boats

It serves at a heater and AC all in one box. I was looking at it for when docked, although if I need to wind up carrying a Generator id probably just get a pair of Honda 1000i's and link them.

The Diesel heater however would be a great option under way. I am going to have to look at that.

I did some research on the Caframo fans, cool pieces of Kit! I can tell you I will definitely wind up with a couple on the boat.

Makes a whole lot of sense to me like the old Fantastic Fan I had on my old RV.

When it comes to the AC, I used to work as a welder in South Texas, I got heat stroked really bad and since then I have a hard time when I get too hot if I can't cool down, I also get really grumpy.

I know when out cruising to cool off I will have to do little more than dive in the water, but for any period of time I spend docked it's going to be something I am going to need.

Another thought I had though with those fans you showed me is I bet one of those would be really good for blowing the heat out of your engine compartment/boat to cool things down so if you have to motor a distance and the engine gets nice and warm, you are not sitting there sweating it out while it radiates heat all day after you have shut it down.

FWIW, most boat diesels I've seen have a combination sound/heat insulation all around the engine. There won't be the heat in the cabin that you're anticipating. But you know Your body. And, it's your money, you do as you please. We have found that the combination of the open hatch and the fan blowing on us, cools our sweat right off us, and we sleep well. The hottest we've been was in the Solomon Is, at about 6 deg. south of the equator, although one summer in the Sea of Cortez, the water was 85 F., and it was really hot at night, as well in the daytime. We did not get as far up as Bahia de Los Angeles.
