How common are these types of boats out on the water (Lakes/calm rivers/ICW)?

Damn what a great thread. Our boats come out of the water in 3 weeks and the thought of a long cold winter does not appeal. This thread suggests that maybe I've been overthinking the requirements for wintering down south.

Re: Red-neck Front Porch

There was a guy in pipe creek used or set a satellite dish on a pole in a shallow cut and anchor 4 point alongside the satellite dish all winter.

On a somewhat more serious note, Bernard Kohler has a 23' pontoon house boat design. Seems to me a much better idea than having and RV as anchoring is usually free most place especially inland lakes but RV spots can be expensive in prime areas. Plan to do a Western US trip with the family at some stage in 5 or so years.

There are more 70-90' pontoon/houseboats around here than I can count...
