Ready ? Scared and What Joy !

Here I sit - or is it float- in the salon of Rebecca. Six plus years of enjoyed work, a lifetime of young boy dreams, and now it's possible to let go the lines and travel into all the adventures that my rather rich imagination can conjure. Can it be true that I actually can sail away to those white beaches and azure lagoons. In my mind I'm already there.

BUT, being an engineer- have I torqued all the bolts that required. Are all the wires properly fused, and will all the thru hulls remain watertight?

But, with each day as that once infinitely long list of things to do now occupy only one page, that far far off, in the future day, has arrived.

On the second, a mere two weeks away, Rebecca and her salty crew will leave this Hidden Harbor and head toward warmer climes, in triumphant celebration, past St. Simon s light house, Jeckells narrows, past Cumberland to St. Mary’s. Not of Magellan caliber but just a earthshaking to me. Or is that my knees.

Please forgive my spelling-my elementary English teacher would cry when see saw me.

Think engineers become engineers because they can't spell. At least that's what my mechanical engineer son claims.

Congratulations on cutting the dock lines.

Re: Ready? Scared and What Joy!

I don't think it's the spelling, but I was taught that the name for the main cabin is saloon. The only time there's a salon on a boat is when your wife gets her hair done on a cruise ship.

Re: Ready? Scared and What Joy!

I remember what it was like when I started out. It was a mixture of fear, dread, and joy. I was fearful about things that could go wrong at sea. I dreaded the fact that I told my friends I was going to sail around the world, and I wasn't sure that I could make it happen, especially because I had a problem with seasickness at the start. It was joy to be setting sail on the ocean of my dreams. The dread was the first to disappear. The fear faded next, although it paid a visit from time to time. The joy never left.

Is this St. Mary's and beyond? We're leaving Jacksonville for the Keys a week ahead of you, but poking about slowly and spending some time in St. Augustine. Where are these "warmer climes" in your sights? Maybe we'll see you on the water!

Congrats, Dust! We're hangin' in St Augustine right now and loving it - you've got a pretty trip ahead of you (we came through Jekyll to here in November) Enjoy!
