Problems with stoves/ovens

I have an Origo 6000 and recently the oven refused to turn off. I had to remove very hoy bottom plate and throw water in the hole. This worked but does not seem an appropriate ongoing solution. I noticed when I turned the nob that a small flame appeared on the side of the canister. This got bigger and bigger - hence the water.

Re: Problems with stoves/ovens

Thanks for the heads up on this. Having a origo 6000 this is a bit of a concern. Mine is old and the mechanism that slides across is slightly worn. I notice they rely on a nice tight fit to snuff out the flame. Prehaps imthe slider didnt slide the fully across, or the edges might be burnt away and not sealing fully? I'd like to find out why it happened to your unit. Sounds like a handy spray bottle of water would be a good idea to put out any small flames like this.

I swapped the cannister and it works OK.I think the other cannister is suspect - although it seems to work OK in the top section.

Putting water on a liquid fuel fire can result in a big fireball. I saw this once on a camping trip.
