The downside is black and white only and no scanner. The upside is copies that are smearproof and not having to worry about ink. I should get annother 2500 copies before I need a new toner cartridge. That will be at laest another 5 years.
We have a laser printer, too, which, 5 years ago, was only 139 (I paid over a grand for my used Laserwriter when I first started in computers!). Recently I saw a COLOR laser printer for under 100 bux.

We just now replaced our first cartridge; we expect much more time out of this one, as it's not in my office any more and we print only very occasionally. If I didn't already have this one, I'd love a color laser printer...

Meanwhile, ditto on the photos instead of scanning/copying. I've done every sort of legal document that way, and at the other end, it always comes out much clearer than a fax would. I stand on the settees so that I get a good long shot (no fisheye effect) with a zoom to fill the screen as much as possible, and then crop to remove the sole on which I've laid it before I send it off or print it. Works a treat for me. YMMV

I had a little portable canon printer on our boat. But as you may be aware, the key to printers is the ink cost not the printer cost... The ink cost and related "cartridge holder" for the little canon was $70!!! (its in the trash dump)

A small printer and a digital camera.

Base the printer choice on cost and shelf life of ink/toner.
