Portofino Marina in Clear Lake

After looking at the Wharf and deciding against it I'm seriously looking at buying a slip on the east side of the marina (docks L thru G). The only issue I'm wondering about is the water depth and the issues with the BP Pipeline, depth and dredging. I know the winter with a north wind, the water depth can lock you in the marina but during the rest of the year how bad will it be with a 5 ft draft boat? Also what's the deal between BP pipelines and the marina? I know there was a lawsuit about the pipeline that ran on that side of marina but can't find any hard details.

Next time you are in the marina, go by and talk to Fred on "Too Much Fun", a blue hulled Endeavor. He's at the end of the pier. He'll give you ALL of the information you need - and you NEED as much info as you can, before purchasing.

We are just on the other side of the bridge and have had only one instance in 3 years where there was a depth issue to the channel. This area is the consistently deepest part of the Clear Lake area.

I'm in Marina Del Mud (honestly I love it here), but have several friends in Portofino and they say it's plenty deep. Many in there have more than 5', I wouldn't hesitate. No idea about the pipeline.

Streep, I would like to go and talk to Fred and others but its kinda hard to get into marina. I got tour last time with sales lady but didn't really get a chance/see any one to talk to.

Are the problems a deal breaker? Is it a financial issue/assessments ? Management? Or is it just a depth issue?
