Also it is a 10 minute walk to the downtown where there is entertainment and restaurants. If you want to sail there is a prevailing westerly almost ever afternoon between 15-25 knots and the view is world class breathtaking with the snow capped mountains behind the town. I have a 32 foot boat but pay for a 40 foot slip for about 290. per month. A dockmate friend pays 360-400- per month total for slip and livaboard fees for a 40 foot sailboat. The east marina is new and best in my opinion as it is closer to everything and the walking distance to your car is much shorter. I prefer the activity in Port Angeles as compared to the sleepy fairly inactive John Wayne Marina. Contact the Port of Port Angeles Harbormaster for Details on both places. The E dock is best as it gets more sun where the dock closer to the bluff won't see the sun all winter. Good luck
Most excellent advice. I wish someone had summarized practical info like that for me when I was looking.

WA may be different but states that charge use tax generally do so as a one time tax not an annual tax.

Use tax rate is generally the same % as the sales tax and you usually are credited the amount of sales tax that you have paid elsewhere.

If you paid a 6% sales tax somewhere and the WA use tax is 9.5% then you owe the difference of 3.5%, generally a one time event.

WA could be different but that would be unusual.

So there is a high sales tax rate and annual property/excise tax.

State income tax?

Wow, what do they do with all that money?

Note to self, skip WA.

Yes they credit already paid sales tax.
No, there isn't an income tax.

No one will miss you if you skip it for whatever reasons.

Paul, did you have your sense of humor removed or were you born without one?

Chill, it's the internet.

I don't blame Paul. I went and found something that any doofus could find for himself in 30 seconds and posted it. Then you come along and say you "haven't read them all, but..." and ramble one with nonsense.

I think it was the but part that got him, and me, too.

We were trying to help the OP with applicable references. That tried to straighten out the guesses you started off with.

What's your beef?

I was correcting that the use tax was not annual and that there was most likely a credit for prior sales tax paid, What I said about that was accurate as your Googling revealed so clearly I was also helping the OP who had been told something that wasn't accurate.

Your Google link also revealed an additional property/excise tax in WA but that was beyond the scope of my original, helping the OP, comments.

I also asked, as a result of reading some of your links, if there was a state income tax? Don't believe that was stated in what you linked to but, again, nothing to do with my original, helping the OP, comments.

Didn't mean to hurt your feelings and if you consider it reasonable paying a 9.5% sales tax along with an annual property tax bill for the privilege of boating in WA then I apologize for being insensitive to your preference.

So, I was right. You confirmed it. All is good. Where's the beef?

So first we don't understand your statements because they were meant to be humor. Then you say you stated that there was a tax credit by saying "not clear if there is" and your question about if there is an income tax was just an honest question you had just prior to saying you would skip WA.
Really, no one cares if you skip WA.

Re: Port Angeles WA live aboard..

Paul, my statement about skipping WA was humour. The rest of my actual comments were factual as I just pointed out above.

What are you disagreeing with?

Re: Port Angeles WA live aboard..

Paul and Stu, I originally said that if WA was like other states the use tax was one time and there would probably be a credit for prior sales tax paid. Go back and read that.

After partially looking at Stu's links I confirmed that the use tax was annual as I had surmised. I didn't proceed to the part about the credit and maybe it was even in a different link.

Whatever.

Looks like the drama in WA is directly proportional to the tax %.

What exactly are you mad about?

The use tax in Washington State is not annual. It is a one time tax equal to the sales tax. A vessel in Washington is also subject to either an annual excise tax or annual personal property tax.

I'm not mad.

This below explains it, just like my links did, if you'd read them all.

Have no idea where state income tax came into it, but we all know FL doesn't have one.

That's why Tiger Woods lives there, right?

Stu, go back and read my first post. Your links confirmed what I surmised. What are we arguing about?

BTW Tiger is not the only one who lives here for, among other considerations, the taxes.

I have lived in MA, MD and NJ so know something about state taxes.

FL has a 6% sales tax, no State income tax, no annual excise tax, reasonable property tax and the sales/use tax on boats is capped at 18k or 300k sales price. That doesn't mean much on this forum but boat sales tax collections have increased since the cap was put in place in 2010.

Happy to be here but that has nothing to do with the OP's topic.
