Re: PODS Storage

We bought a used, slightly rusty 40 ft shipping container for $1,000 and $130 for delivery to our land, patched up the roof and added a bunch of shelves with cinder blocks just like in college. Lots of room and very succure but you have no control over the humidity and it gets HOT in the summer sun. When we returned, all the cartons had absorbed moisture and collasped. Now we are repacking everything into large Tupperware bins and better wooden shelves. As others have said, you really do not need as much as you think you do but it sure is hard to part with some of it. It is easier the second time around. We have 3 rules now:
  1. Is it a family heirloom?
  2. Is it replaceable?
  3. Do we want to move it to our final dirt home?

Re: PODS Storage - Photos

I need to add - photos need special storage - find a good friend and leave them there.

I agree with you Paul. We have all our stuff in 5 large wood sided containers stored in a temp controlled Moving and Storage company in SD. They charge an hourly fee to get the fork lift to move them out for access. Have been using this storage company for the past 10 years and so far everytime we have had to dig into the containers the items have been in perfect condition. They bring the containers to your house and then pack them. Believe me when I say it's so worth them to pack it as they get about 25% more into each box even using blankets for protection.

It's much much cheaper than normal storage places that you rent a room.

Call your local storage Nd moving company like Bekins or Allied if your in the US

Good luck

Chuck
