The last one I bought (a Fellowes model, though I don't recall which) had an extendable arm that let it sit on top of any wastebasket... but it died. A quick scan of Amazon doesn't turn up any crosscut ones that come without a basket, but you could probably give away that included bin and adapt it to something already on hand... or even a simple homebrew frame that holds a bag.

Yea, the extendable arm style is nowhere to be found...in the USA. Strange. I may have to buy one with a basket and figure something out.

I reread the postings looking for the hostile, offended people and couldn't find them. Good luck with your search, Aythya crew

If a post offends you here, it's usually best to assume it was made in jest*. That's normally the case. Not always, but almost always. We're a friendly crew here on CF.

*especially if made by a certain member called MarkJ!

We used to have a shredder with an adjustable arm to fit on wastebaskets of different sizes. It was inexpensive but lasted for years. Found it at Wal Mart.

The ones that obstruct a trash can usually are toy quality, as are most of the under-$100 dedicated ones. (Toy, as in "can't shred one year of old tax returns and backup papers without extensive cool-down periods.") But I think the folks at LifeLock are giving one away free with a trial membership, you might want to look them up for that.

If you only need light use...there is something to be said for the funky scissor and then just burning it.
