Our Maiden Voyage to the Bahamas

Setting off in our custom 64' cat for 2 weeks in the Bahamas. It would be longer, but we have to return to Florida for a couple of weeks. But we'll be right back out once we get our issues in order.

Re: Our maiden voyage to the bahamas

I don’t suppose you were overtaken by too many 30 foot longkeel monohuls

It looks a fantastic boat. It always takes some time to sort a new systems out. Enjoy the location even if things if there are some teething problems that need fixing.

We're still in Florida. The wind just got too gnarly, the chop was pretty bad and we hit some sea creature and snapped off the break away pin on the rutter housing. Keith designed it that way, though just for that contingency so we wouldn't lose the rutter or housing all together. One of our motors quit too, but keith checked after we anchored, and it's fine. He said it must have been some air in the valve when it was switching tanks. We stopped off in manatee pocket in Port Saint Lucie and Keith is going to make a few adjustments for the boat while we wait for the wind to turn back in our favor which will be Sunday. Definitely teething though. We did 12-14.8 (top speed) mph and wind was 10-12 mph. We did 90 miles, give or take, and we had to slow her down a few times to make a few adjustments and actual sail time from harbor to harbor was about 9.5 hrs.
Kai, our 4 yr old, threw up twice but got right back up and kept on sailing without complaint. He said he's ready to do it again! Everyone's ok.

Pnutchuck,

I would love to here more about your boat. Do you have any more photos you can post? Is the a full custom build or a converted race boat? By the way you are currently anchored by hind my sister's house. She is in the very modern house with the Leopard 40 on the dock. Wave as you go by.

We are in George Town right now. We are leaving Sunday and will head up the Exumas. Maybe we will cross paths!

We can wave at her right now! How funny! I'll post some more pics in another thread, I'm using an app and can't do it in this one.

Full custom but the hulls are an elliptical design mold based on an old race boat from 1982 (?) named Fury.

Our friend, who came with us to help us get this big girl out, has to fly out by Wednesday. We're considering just going to Bimini because we have some more friends sailing over there and they have a young girl for our son to play with. We'd really like to pick up another crew to help on the return. We have a couple of people who said they'd fly out, but nothing's certain.

Now we're trying to leave today! Keith and Chuck are busy getting the boat ready to take off. And now we're talking about hitting up different islands again. But this plan is likely to change too. I'll just post the location when I get there....

Ok, sails are up! We're headed across the gulf stream now! We're doing 8 mph across the current.

Made it to West End, but Chuck flew out yesterday. We're waiting for more crew so, we're staying at the marina for a week. We'd like to anchor out, but we discovered that our 4 yr old doesn't do so well with the bumping.
