Only allowed one cook book, which one would it be?

I was thinking to myself if I could only take one cookbook which one would I take? Would it be a dedicated cruising cookbook, a general book such as The Joy of Cooking or what? So I decided I'd make this a Liveaboard forum question. The rule is simple, you can only nominate one (ONE) book.

A Kindle.

"Joy of Cooking" especially an older (70s or 80s) edition.

Remember, cruising guides, cruising books, "The Cruiser's Guide to Fishing", and such all have some food preparation and cooking info also, so you will have other guidance as well.

A tablet or notebook computer, there's about a zillion recipes on the internet.

My wife "accuses" me of cooking. I defer to my ability to ruin even the boiling of water.

Besides, I'm still learning how to read, so, a coooookbooook...?!?

In my limited real cruising time, I took two books: Calder's manual and cruising handbook. These two had everything I needed to cover a wide variety of potential issues in limited space.

Everything else I had on my laptop and portable hard drive backup. And then there was, with limited connectivity, the internet resource.

Perhaps you might apply the same reasoning to this delightful aspect of cruising.

More fun than maintenance, I'll bet.

Exactly, perfect example of "limited connectivity." I find it refreshing, on a regular basis. Why? 'Cuz I'm within connectivity range now which means I'm in my slip, not "out there," and tacking some projects that entail "boat bites," those little and sometimes bigger minor injuries involving phrases such as, "Gee, what's that red stuff on the cockpit floor?"

For the serious cook "the Complete America's Test Kitchen TV Show Cookbook".

The book does an excellent job of the reasons the recipe works. The recipes have been extensively tested. The resulting food is excellent, well above par for the average consumer cookbook.

The internet is a little hit and miss in the Pacific. Counting on getting recipe downloads will be very frustrating. My wife used Joy of Cooking Circa '70s to figure out what to do with the local produce. Green Papayas were about the only fresh greens available in the Marquesas and tuamotus when we were there. Seems like she could always a recipe or tips on how to prepare anything we could find that looked edible in Joy of Cooking.

Have dozens of cookbooks and thousands of novels loaded onto the tablet.

Well. My favorite topic! Like the others, I have dozens onboard and downloaded as well, plus we don't really use them much... I have a very old hari krishna cookbook that is my fave, every single thing in there is scrumptious! Another great one is the Dean and Deluca cookbook, it has something on everything. The cruisers guide to fishing is good cause it has a lot of recipes but also the technical guide to catching the food. But mostly we have everything memorized we like and learned from our mommies.... it's comfort food every day aboard Wake
