North American Geography Lesson

Not being a North American, I have a very poor knowledge of the US & Canadian coastal cruising waters. With this in mind, I am adding a feature to my website where cruising sailors can check the weather. So my North American cousins, what are the most important coastal cruising locations in the US and Canada?

Pacific Northwest also known as the Salish Sea.

Also Puget Sound to Alaska.

Besides the Salish Sea and Inside Passage (great scenery but with some areas limited in wind), Long Island Sound (including Newport, RI) would have to rank highly, along with Maine and the Maritimes, the Great Lakes (really inland seas), Southern California including the Channel Islands, and Chesapeake Bay (Annapolis and more). Others would be the Florida Keys, Charleston SC, San Francisco Bay, and several hotspots on the Gulf of Mexico. And, there's more to north America than just Canada and the USA, including the Gulf of California/Sea of Cortez and Banderas Bay in Mexico, and the Virgins, Leeward, and Windward islands of the Caribbean.

The entire east coast of the USA is important in hurricane season.

Don't forget Bermuda, Bahamas and Turks & Caicos, which are often confused with the Caribbean. These islands are all in the Atlantic Ocean . They are all popular with east coast sailors.

I think the only country that is in the caribbean sea is Jamaica,Aruba and the Caymans the Antilleas are only caribbean on the south side..right?..DVC

Anywhere along the ocean, any lake larger than a couple of acres, and all the major rivers.

Really. I don't know that people sail much around Baffin Island, but pretty much all the waterfront, you'll see sailboats.
