New Forum Member and Live Aboard

Hi All,

This is my first post on the forums. I want to thank everyone for the postings and the wealth of information available here. I have recently purchased a C&C 27 hull number 13. I live aboard. She is a beauty of a boat lavished with love by a previous owner. Her power plant was converted to Yanmar diesel. She was also converted to wheel steer. At 27' she is cozy but she is home. I named her Music after the line in the song "Southern Cross", "I have my ship and all her flags are flying. She is all that I have left and Music is her name. Her home is the Tampa Bay area. Hope to see you all around. :-)

I named my first boat from a song too -- SILVER GIRL. The third verse of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" says

"Sail on, silver girl -- sail on by! Your time has come to shine, all your dreams are on their way! See how they shine ..."

And it really was true for me.

I'm renaming this boat, and it might be SILVER GIRL II. The only problem with the name is that since I'm 67 (62 when I got my first boat), everyone thought it was an age reference. But what do I care? I'm not going to fool anyone into thinking I'm 30 unless they're drunk AND blind.

Thank you all for the welcome. Raku, I remember Silver Girl from the song. That is pretty awesome. I considered the name "White Dove" from Dylan's "Blowin in the Wind" song. I am sleeping aboard Music tonight and a storm has just blown through.. I really feel at home here with her.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new boat.

Renaming Hull #13. I'm guessing you aren't superstitious. Still, please don't whistle your boat's theme song while offshore.

Bash, I lucked out on my #13. I bought her and her stern was bare. For me it is not renaming her....it is about naming her. I found charts where her previous owner(s) sailed her down the east coast from New England all the way to the Bahamas. She has whispered to me some of her stories about water sailing">blue water sailing and exotic ports of call. I want to learn more and share in some of her stories as well. Luck is what you make of it. Bad or good, Ill take what I get and I will be grateful for the opportunity to have rolled the dice. :-)

Music is my first sailboat and she is my first live aboard. I used to race on a J 30 as a crew member and I took two semesters of sailing in college. That was all 20 or more years ago. That was enough to infect me. Twenty years later and it has manifested itself.... Be careful it is contagious...I think I have infected some of my friends, family and coworkers with live-on-a-boatitis. I am going through the downsize my belongings thing so I can live comfortably aboard.
