Natures head cleaning the pee jug

We live aboard and have installed the natures head about 11 months ago. We use the head a lot especially in winter. The pee jug has me perplexed.

Is there anything I can put inside the jug to clean it out? Its getting a nasty build up inside the jug and since I cant put my hands in there to scrub away the gunk what else aside from buying a new one can be done?

I have tried bleach and vinegar solutions with limited success.

100% bleach undiluted will de-stinkify. If the polyethylene is stained you will have to live with it. Build-up? what are you eating/drinking?

Re: Natures head cleaning the pee jug

The head ships with two jugs. I normally dump a nearly full one, rinse it out three times with clean water, put a couple of ounces of bleach in the bottom, put the lid on and let it sit for a day or two, empty the bleach, rinse it out again, and then put it over the nets on my boat with the opening facing the wind for a day or two, and then store it. It may take four or five days from the time I dump it till I put it back in the head.

I also have a spray bottle with diluted Mr. Clean I keep by the head and spray a few squirts in the holes that drain into the jug to control crystalization of the urine.

Ill try bleach again - I suppose we drink to much run and coke.

Ours shipped with one jug and we have to dump it everyday (2 adults and 1 child)

do not use bleach with urine..lol..use vinegar. bleach is clorox and pee is ammonia..dangerous gases..lol use vinegar as vinegar neutralizes urine. wont give you that omg i am ill feeling you will get from bleach with urine.

Re: Natures head cleaning the pee jug

Simple solution is to buy an extra jug but they do cost $US40.

Extra Bottle [extra_bottle] - $40.00 : Nature's Head, Inc.

I have a few five gallon plastic buckets I keep around for various reasons including storing the mulch from the solid wastes the head produces. If worst comes to worst you could use them to store urine.

Zee while I understand your point I have found bleach to work better than vinegar to clean what I will call the solid coating left in the jug after I wash it out with clean water three times.

YMMV

Why not just do what Natures Head said to do.

"All urine has an odor. It will not be noticed with normal use. It will be present when the storage container is open to the air for emptying. For persistent urine odors to the container the addition of 1 tablespoon of raw sugar to the tank will reduce this odor."

One part Hydrogen Peroxide one part water plus handful of baking soda. Mix then Rinse.

Stops the Oxidation I believe. Works with skunks. Odour is gone in minutes.

Tried this and it doesn't work besides the residue remains.

Good idea but it would not take long until I had two jugs with nasty build up. I am looking for something simple and quick but you may be right in the long run.

Re: Natures head cleaning the pee jug

We built a custom head. We use one gallon jugs. At every use we sprinkle a little urine destroyer in the jug. We have zero odor problem.

you'll catch more flies with sugar than you will with vinegar.

I'm just saying...
