My New Adventure !

Hi everyone! My name is Ricky.. I decided to start a new life and life aboard a sailboat. I just bought a 1971 C&C 27 and I cant wait to upgrade it and live on it as well. This boat I have was hull #3 Thats the exciting part of it. I live in Northern VA and I am trying to find a place that does liveaboards for sailboats and its hard. do any of you know anywhere that does? Also can you please tell anything that will help with my new adventure.

I plan to have this boat for a short time then try to sell it for a larger one maybe within a year. Any feed back about cost of living will be great as well. thank you everyone!!!!!!

I have never lived in the Virgin Islands, but I am homesick for them also.

I haven't been there, but friends have spoken very well of the Urbana Town Marina on the Rappahanock.

Check out Salt Ponds marina in Hampton. They don't allow liveaboards (it's a city
Thing, not the marinas choice), but they welcome "extended stayers". Rates are very reasonable, I think for you're boat it would be around $230 a month plus metered electric. 2 swimming pools and a tiki bar as well

Re: My New Adventure !!!!!!!

i personally dont think it is much cheaper to live aboard. there are, of course, a lot of variables depending on where you live and rent / insurance etc.

there is a mindset that comes with living aboard that is far more valuable that any the cost of living.

Re: My New Adventure !!!!!!!

Our favorite place in the whole Virginia area was Krentz Marine, up the Wycomico river. Quiet, beautiful part of the Chesapeake - very rural. A great restaurant nearby that is open only three evenings a week - Good Eats. Had a great time when we kept Taleisin there. Since we worked on board, we didn't have to have access to a town - so might not work for you.

Lots of luck with your new venture. But don't forget to go out sailing on that boat. It's not just living aboard that is pleasurable, it's going places with your floating home.
