Month 31 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

Traveled from Vero Beach to Boot Key/Marathon FL. Been trying to go slower and see some sights I haven’t stopped at, but things interfere with all cruising plans so sometimes you just end up holding in places

Did grocery, beer and supply runs as normal. Maybe a little more because we didn’t spend a lot last month and we need do some restock.

BOOM!!!! Went the boat budget this month when our dinghy seam just blew out. That became a “take it or leave it” to get what was available at the West Marine we were near and which I already am disliking. We had our mast off a few months ago and never felt the mast was adjusted correctly by the “professionals”, so that became a $280 tension gauge purchase to correct (it was waaaay off). The dinghy and tension gauge accounts for $2250 of the months boat expenses, which still leaves $500 this month on “small” things for you planners.

Most of our dining was smaller stuff, but there was a birthday in the mix and 1 other higher dining night out.

The total expenses were $ 4,888.38. Cost breakdown as follows for planners and hecklers:
Food, soda, alcohol, clothing, sundries - $ 1,007.16
Boat upgrades, repairs, maintenance - $ 2,727.76
Fuel (diesel, gas, propane) - $ 157.65
Dining out - $ 449.67
Entertainment - $ 55.10
Communication, storage, shipping - $ 144.46
Fees – $ -41.56
Marina - $ 232.47
Electric - $ 0
Medical - $ 10.00
Transportation - $ 28.17
Gifts - $ 64.25
Water - $ 16.00
Registration - $ 37.25
Insurance - $ 0

There is a Lady in Vero that can make outstanding dinghy chaps for a very reasonable price. Most everyone knows her, she is often at the I guess you would call it the clubhouse, the building with the showers.
I don’t know which dinghy you ended up with, but I believe or hope that chaps will extend the life of one.

Less than $450 for dining out? Must be a typo.
What tension gauge did you get?

We did a lot of going to breweries that didn't have food and going to happy hours that were just less expensive. The saves enough to spend more on food at the store and get ribeyes !!!!! It all works out.

Got a Loos Professional PT3. There wasn't really a lot of choices and when ordering the shipping had to work out so I got from Defender with 2-day shipping even thought that worked out to $20 more. I'll probably be trying to sell in in a month after I'm sure everything stays tight and good.

I was lying to appear to be brave. We have been eating cat food! Not even the good stuff, but the stuff with white labels that just say "cat food" in black lettering.

If you enjoy these made up fictional budget stories and want them to continue, please send some of those steaks to:
