Re: Month 17 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

Thanks again for another financial quick look, I find it reassuring. Confirming that it’s almost time to go sailing. [emoji41]

Interesting - that is about $500 a month than we have averaged over our past 9 years. This year will push that up a bit a we have a ton of work to do on the boat.

It mostly averages over $3k/m due to 3 months. The months that had Christmas in them and the month that I replaced my batteries and the autopilot drive (twice).

This is what a lot of folks do not understand - there are times when the costs get out of hand. This year I am replacing about 8 thur hulls they are 15 years old, new bimini and dodger they are 8 years old, overhaul 150 amp alternator and new voltage reg as it stopped working after 15 years, new genny as it is 15 years old, a new water tank as the fwd one is leaking and needs to be replaced, and a biggy - we have a leak on the back side of our heat exchanger and that will cost a ton and I hope it is just the cover and not the entire thing. and I just bought a new starter battery today. and that does not include the normal wear and tear stuff like a new halyard line and a mattress (we wore it out after 15years) - that is just the boat stuff

I was told I have a cataract in my right eye so that will be repaired this year after 72 years of looking at a lot of stuff (some I probably should not have looked at) -

it will be an expensive year.

SB - I like that you're not skimping (per se) nor are you bored and the budget is not bad in my eyes. However, I think you should have gotten another couple orders of the fried crab claws .

Additionally, others parrot similar budgets. As I plan my escape this is valuable information.

I always look forward to your monthly accounting posts.

Thanks again

As we ramp up for a 3 month shakedown this summer in anticipation of full-timing in May 2019, I again want to offer our thanks for your openness and honesty. Incredibly helpful and encouraging!

If you’ve been paying monthly the marina will prorate on a daily or weekly basis based on the monthly rate if your unsure when leaving.

Always have for us, and when I asked them a couple of weeks ago they confirmed that was their policy.

I already said you can be right, regardless of what the marina people told me and therefore was first hand experience. I’m sure you are spending and reporting my money correctly

Yes some marinas will prorate, some wouldn’t
