Men's Underwear Confessional!

I'm back to living on board full time now and finding out that as my older, heavier body adjusts, my default underwear, just doesn't work.

Ok, I don't know if this has been asked before.

So what is the best underwear to buy as a live aboard in the Tropics 30-33°C

My 100% cotton M&S boxer shorts are wringing wet by the end of the day and bunched up in really uncomfortably places.

The tight briefs don't bunch but they do cut in after a day in the engineroom.

Is there a more flexible material and style perhaps sportier design that keeps everything in its place!

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

Underwear is just something that gets in the way of a good time. Better without it.

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

Yep. As mentioned. Either silk, or the "quick dry" type. And you want boxers. Not briefs. Not boxer briefs. Boxers.

You're still going to get a little sweaty in hot and humid weather. That's just unavoidable. But these will be as comfortable as you're going to get.

And going "commando" is a very bad idea when you're working in hot and humid conditions. You get just as sweaty, but you don't have the layer that wicks it away from the skin.

Good luck.

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

Under armour or Saxx by far the best out there for sweat

Boxers Imo is the same as going commando and the end up in all the wrong places

Duluth makes nice stuff for keeping the stick and berries cool and in place.

Quick-dry underwear, or quick dry shorts and no underwear. Once cotton underwear gets wet, I change. If I sit around in damp underwear or clothes I start getting rashy. For that "GoldBond" powder.

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

I wore nothing but quick dry "board" type swim shorts for 10 years in SEA whenever on the boat. They all had the built in netting for holding the business together.

We'd go through squalls and be dry 15 minutes after.

Lots of variety to choose from with pockets, cargo pockets etc. Same for shirts, loose dry fit shirts were best.

For rashes I second using a quality powder after showering. There is also a medicated cream for preventative use called Neat 3B that worked well.

If it’s all you’re wearing, isn’t it just “wear?”

Oh, wait. I’ve gone feral again, haven’t I?

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

Underwear is a temporary societal construct, a fad. It didn't exist a few hundred years ago and will cease to exist again soon. Don't give in to fads. Be your own man. Strike out, be bold, be ahead of the timeline. There is no freedom like commando freedom! ...but board shorts are useful, too.

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

Board shorts and something quick-dry. Some have enough pockets. The main thing is they don't get all heavy with sweat and they move well.
