Mattress Top Memory Foam
My wife has been looking at several types of memory foam to add to the V-berth. The pricing is all over the place. I told her we did not know enough about memory foam to judge which would give us the best for our money. Comments on your experience and recommendations are appreciated.

Re: Mattress Top Memory Foam
I've used a Walmart the past 3 years and it seemed fine. Think this year I'm going to get a larger one and then just cut it to shape for the aft berth, then take the old one and do the same for the forward berth.

I bought Memory Foam at Big Lots and it's extremely comfy. I don't know how long it will last but it's a lot better than those very hard boat mattresses.

Re: Mattress Top Memory Foam
We went this route. Overstock.com has 4 inch Serta mattresses for $100.00 with free shipping. We ordered the King size, trimmed it with an electric carving knife and installed it over a Froli system. We think it's more comfortable than a quality standard mattress and box spring.
It's been aboard and used nightly for 2 and a half years and is still in excellent shape.
The extra foam will be cushions in the cabin at some point. Since you pay the same for a twin or a king we figured we would use the excess.

Re: Mattress Top Memory Foam
The walmart stuff I have seen is a thin layer of memory foam (the really expensive stuff) over plain foam that is not very firm.
The guy I got my foam from for the last 25yrs is gone now.

Appears the same as Walmart. A little bit of memory foam and then regular.
Before I got rich I slept on only regular foam on plywood base. Now have 3" memory foam on top of that. AHHHHH!

Re: Mattress Top Memory Foam
sounds comfy!
We were concerned about mattress height (resulting in lost head space) and weight (ease of access to lockers under berth) and the thinner mattress and the froli fixed that for us ; -)

Re: Mattress Top Memory Foam
We ordered ours four years ago from rockymountainmattress.com. It's a four-inch topper and extremely comfortable. We sent them the dimensions of our V-berth and they cut it and made a custom cover for it.

Re: Mattress Top Memory Foam
We did matresses in the V-berth last spring. After some research, I opted for non-closed cell; non-memory foam. All the closed cell stuff does not breathe and could trap moisture. (mildew) I used https://www.foamcenter.com/Merchant2...gory_Code=RAIN outdoor rain-through foam with built-in mold inhibitor. Also buy the contact cement to make odd shapes. I picked 4" thick. There is a selection aid on the site to help pick the firmness vs thickness. Open cell foam can bea more easily dried when wet. Use a bread knife or ordinary cross-cut saw.

Re: Mattress Top Memory Foam
We have THREE memory foam mattresses from fleabay: the seller is "sleepymountainmattress". The oldest is about 8 years now. The boat one they cut for us for an additional $10 - and as ours is a long queen, they made it slightly oversized for us at no charge. You can also cut them with an electric knife.
Like I said, both our King at home and our Queen on the boat are from them, 10" thick and have done VERY well. They have a 10" queen mattress system, delivered in the US for $300.

Re: Mattress Top Memory Foam
Costco's are all memory foam -- we have them on our beds 4 years and it really makes a difference. They hold up well. We thought about getting another and cutting to size for the top of the v-berth mattresses but it would add a lot of weight, making it difficult to get to storage beneath, so I have held off. It would improve comfort though so it's a question of trade-offs.
