Marina Suggestions - North East Florida

Looking for a marina where I can live aboard my 32' sailboat for a few months starting around mid February.

I'd consider even going down to the Keys, but I imagine that the southeast part of Florida is going to be jam packed February and March (or am I wrong?)

Definitely want to dock as opposed to mooring or anchoring.

Suggestions welcomed!

There are a few in Jacksonville about 20 miles up river from the ICW. Ortega River Marina, Ortega Landing and Sadler Point are all on the Ortega River just up from downtown Jacksonville. They are well protected and within easy walking distance of groceries, restaurants, West Marine, shopping and haul out facilities. Another 20 miles up the river is Green Cove Springs - cheaper, but less convenient. You would need access to a car here. There are others in the area, but I am not sure of their live aboard policies.

If you want to be closer to the ocean and the ICW, St. Augustine is popular.

I was looking for a Marina with Boatyard and haul out facilities, to make sure everything is ship shape and fit to go offshore, around Florida last night.

Found this one:

Harbortown Marina - Ft. Pierce, Florida - A Full Service Marina.

Any that are better value, along with as convenient for shopping locally as well as receiving goods ordered online, I'd be interested in hearing about.

In anticipation of unexpected holdups (there's always something), I'd probably be looking at a couple of months on the hard.

Westland at Titusville. You can stay aboard on the hard or in the water. And do your own work. Don't have to buy paint and parts from them .

Halifax Harbor in Daytona Beach is my home. Great facilities.

I recently had my boat at Cape Marina at Port Canaveral, which has a haul out yard where you can live on your boat while you repair it yourself, have them do the work, or have outside contractors work on your boat.

Harbortown Marina on Merrit Island (Cape Canaveral). Nice hurricane hideout, easy access to the ICW, have to go through a lock to get to the Atlantic (1 hour plus depending on the wait.

My wife and I live aboard our boat in Daytona Beach at Sunset Harbor Marina. The cost is 8 dollars a foot and a 100 dollar live aboard fee. It is secure and within biking distance to everything. I found Fernandina Beach is good. It all depends on how far North you want to be in Florida, I spent 3 months there living aboard and enjoyed the Town. Good places to eat. Easy access to the ICW and going off shore... Easy traveling all the way to Key West..

Ortega Landing in Jacksonville is a great marina. I've been there for 7yrs, good management and very convenient to West Marine, groceries and haul out right next door. Phone 904-387-5538 or office@ortegalanding.com

I currently have my boat at Beach Marine in Jacksonville Beach. It is right off the ICW a few miles south of the St. John River. Across the ICW from it is another Marina that has haul out facilities. Several liveaboards live at both places. I chose Beach Marine because it seemed a little nicer- and it is, although it is also pricier. There is a small West Marine and grocery stores fairly close by, walkable from both.

At the Ft Pierce Inlet:

Harbortown Marina is a good one for live-aboard and convenience w/ no bridge to the ocean (unfortunately West Marine moved from a walk to a car-ride away but groceries still a walk).
Crackerboy Boatyard/Marina, just across the creek from Harbortown, has the lift and repair services but its 3-5 liveaboard spaces seemed to be always filled w/ permanents.
Riverside Marina is about 1 mile north of Harbortown, 1 bridge, and cheaper but may be tight on live-aboard space. Has services but is also a DIY yard.

New management is not necessarily a good thing, and I was just there and paid $340.00 plus $5.00 per day for electricity (which works out to almost $500.00 a month for a 36' boat. Plus they wanted another $170.00 on top of that for a live aboard fee.
I'm not sure that I call that inexpensive .
