Marathon living

Hey all.. I might have the possibility of a job opportunity in Marathon, FL... we have been considering live aboard for a while and this may be the opportunity to do it! I'm looking for advice, perspectives, and warnings on living in the area aboard or on land.. I've considered buying property on the water and building my own dock? Is this possible? And I see ppl selling the right to build on your property permits? Wtf is that?I've considered a small condo with dock facilities. I've looked at sombrero marina.. are there better choices near by? I don't want to drive an hour to work though....

You can't beat the mooring field if you are a cruiser type. Having a job ashore would be no problem.
