Re: Looking for help purchasing Health Insurance

RuthHenderson.

If your OHIP insurance has expired, when you return home there is a 90 day waiting period before you are again covered. So if you have an emergency evac home you would not be covered and would have to pay all costs. This happened to a gentlman who came home and was within a week of getting coverage when he had a problem and was billed by OHIP. Check this out before you leave.

I have no personal experience, but a couple different people I spoke with told me coverage is cheap if you EXCLUDE treatment in the US.

Re: Looking for help purchasing Health Insurance

I have no real answer for you, but a comment that we have met with many Canadians while cruising in Mexico, and they all do the half year in Mexico, half year in Canada routine specifically due to their health insurance requirements. Well, that and it gets really hot in Mexico in the summer.

Anyway, might consider that as an option if insurance costs get unreasonable otherwise.

Re: Looking for help purchasing Health Insurance

Ive used IHI (Int'l Health Insurance) out of Europe. Very good, excellent language coverage. You pay the bill, they reimburse. A bit expensive, but never a payment problem.

But you must be under 60, I think, to get coverage, then it's good until age 80. Let it drop, you can't renew over 60.

They also have coverage by the trip. Even better if you spend a lot of time at home.
