Living on the hook.

I was curious to know if anyone would have any recommendations on the best locations to live on the hook. We are interested in private areas somewhere in the tropics. We are not very particular about any one island or country just somewhere simple and without a ton of regulations. Thanks guys.

It's not "private", but I hear good things about Luperon in the Dominican Republic. I'm not sure what you mean by private. ....isolated? ...exclusive? It's likely not private if posted here.

Does not need to be a place where no one else is around. Just somewhere where it is simple and easy to do. Quick dink to shore for groceries and what not and long term.

Theres a few more then Atoll listed, but right now I sure can't think of any warm places but Ive got a hundred In the PNW that can be warm sometimes but are sure fine looking ! and mostly lonely and very quite!! but if they have good holding ground Im mostly happy !!

Anywhere you go is going to have regulations. Can't avoid that in our modern world.

Now, in some areas the regulations that do exist are rarely enforced, and when they are it is usually at the whim of the local official. Is that a good thing? It is if you stay on the good side of the local official. Get on his bad side, though, and those kinds of places can quickly turn into a nightmare far worse than the most over-regulated places you can imagine.

It's a trade off. You can deal with the time and paperwork in places where regulations are fastidiously enforced. Or you can deal with being careful to remain in the good graces of the local authorities. Some people have much more trouble with the latter than with the former.

Lol guess I just need to drop anchor in the middle of the ocean...thank u for all of the locations some of them are really beautiful and the wife is sold for checking them out so all is good

Don't know where you live but there are miles and miles of privacy in the Bahamas and close to the US. We spend several months each year in the "Out Islands" and love the privacy. If you don't like the scenery, just move on.

Very few places will allow foreigners to take up residence without some significant conditions being attached. So you try a few places out, and see where you'd like to hang about. And how long it takes before someone says "move it along now".

G'day, mate. Not the tropics, but you would be hard pressed to find a more "hospitable" place to live aboard than the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. Lots of "private" spots to anchor up away from the normal tourist "hot" spots and very few regulations.

Very easy for a foreigner to reside for 6 months or so (as many do season after season) and then sail up to the tropics for the other 6.
