Re: Living Aboard a Morgan Ketch
I always find the Morgan a friendly boat. There are not many boats that immediately makes one feel at home, but this one does.
An owner I met described the sailing performance : "like a whale, slow but majestic!"

Re: Living Aboard a Morgan Ketch
One of the things that amazes me is how people can shop for a boat and find a doggy poorly maintained boat at the right price but when they find a clean well maintained example then its always over priced.
Buy one of these dogs and try to bring it up to the same level as that over priced clean one and you'll find that you will spend way more and never end up equal.
Personally my advise is to find the best example of the boat you want and pay a fair price for it, you'll be miles ahead.

I've found this to be true,in most cases.I've seen abandoned boats sell for what was owed the yard,up east this didn't work out well.Water in the pipes, half full fuel tanks,etc............The 40 O/I Morgan I was on was a C/C boat. The aft cabin was great. It worked out great for two couples extended cruising.Peace and privacy when it was your turn to sleep, and the best place to be in rough weather.I really enjoyed the boat. Not very fast, but who cares.

There's another way to be "miles ahead", but you need to start early. I bought a 1973 Morgan in 1973 and I've just kept the old dog in shape.
Actually, I traded one '73 Morgan for another '73 Morgan in 1985, but the plan still holds true,- maintain & refit.

Re: Living Aboard a Morgan Ketch
BTW... These boats do come up in good shape once in a while....
My buddy gave me the go ahead couple years ago to help get rid of this refitted example for 35K... He did a fantastic job... There were no takers...

Re: Living Aboard a Morgan Ketch
Actually, the really nice ones might not ever make it to the noticable market. I'm not planning to sell anytime soon, but I've already promised one sailor first right of refusal.
She will stay nice if all my groundings are soft!

I think you need to start a "right of refusal list"
She looks right at home there... On the soft...
