Liveaboard Marinas in Oregon

Hi all, I am looking for recommendations for a liveaboard marina in NW Oregon (Portland to Astoria area). I have noticed that many of the marinas in my area are closing or no longer allow liveaboards. Even a private slip without the marina extras would work in a pinch. I will only be storing the boat there at first while I prep it for cruising.

Thanks for any leads!

Re: Liveaboard marinas in Oregon?

very simple way of doing it.......dont call yourselve a liveaboard.. start using the term cruiser and you can uasally stay in a marina for 3 to 4 months without a problem..
we would stop in somewhere, mention that we were passing through and wanted to stop for a couple months and do some sight seeing.. completely different attitude when they know that you arnt moving in to stay and hanging your cloths line up on the dock..
many times we negosheated (sp) the term and got the price alot lower if we paid for two or three months up front,,
just call ahead and tell them that you are on your way south and would like to explore the area for awhile.. you'd be surprised at how receptive they are.. after a couple months, start looking for another place..
we hopped around the northwest for 5 years and whenever we would leave, they would always ask us to come stay again when passing through..

Re: Liveaboard Marinas in Oregon ?

Some of the ones I have looked at are in the Scappoose area, if you are not really ‘living aboard’ at first Rocky point is nice, just up from there is Pirates cove which is a live aboard marina. As I am looking I find more, at this time I need to stay somewhat close to the Vancouver -Portland areas so have also looked east at the Camas area. Let me know when you find one maybe we’ll be neighbors.
A couple more in The Portland area Pier One, Tomahawk bay and McCuddys, McCuddys has several locations.

Seems like half of the boats in my area of the marina (mostly 40-50-footers) where people living aboard are "transients," staying for weeks or months. Otherwise, there is a waiting list to become a legal liveaboard.

We lived aboard in Multnomah Channel for 13 years. There are several marinas in the channel off Highway 30. Pirates Cove, Rocky Point and numerous others.

Re: Liveaboard Marinas in Oregon

Thank you, Continuing. Rockey Point has changed hands several times and no longer offers livaboard, and are not even pleasant when asked about the possibility. We plan on contacting Pirates Cove tomorrow. We are on Hayden Is now and need further down stream. Thank you . Gary & Suzy
