Liveaboard in Tampa, Florida area

Hi there,

We are looking to move to the Tampa area and would like to live aboard our soon to be purchased boat. Currently living aboard in Long Island, but will be upgrading to a larger boat and need some suggestions as to where, if any marinas, accept liveaboards. Looking for a community feel, not a boat yard. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,
Kelly

Re: Liveaboard in Tampa, Florida area

I enjoyed St. Petersburg Municipal Marina. I spent about three months there a few years ago.

Thanks everyone! A great start to exploring! We wish we could head further south, but need to be closer to family who live inland and north of Orlando.

Regatta Pointe in Palmetto not only allows them, they encourage and cater to them.

I live in Tampa and there are very few and far between marinas that are available. Did you try Marjorie Park Yacht Basin. I can't tell if they allow liveaboards. Garrison Cove Apt.. Florida Marina Club by Gandy The Resort and Club at Little Harbor.

It might be easier if you PM me and we can talk.

Re: Liveaboard in Tampa, Florida area

In the early 80's I worked in Tampa and lived at a condo marina on Clearwater beach. The drive to Tampa in those days was no big deal. It might be a bit of a hassel today. Easy access to Gulf from there if you want to do weekend trips.

I second Twin Dolphin Marina in Bradenton, Fl. This is about 45 miles South of Tampa via I75. Spent a couple of months there this past winter and loved the walk around down town and riverwalk.

I second St. Petersburg Municipal. I've lived aboard here four years and its a great community feeling. I prefer the South basin called Demens Landing but the West and North docks are preferred by some. The marina is in walking distance to shopping, banking, and nightlife in downtown St. Pete.

Slips are in demand so depending on your boat size you may have to get on a waiting list.

Make it 3 votes for St. Pete's muni.

I kept my boat there two years ago, and it is a wonderful area, especially since you are in walking distance of so much. Trouble is they now have a waiting list.... I could not get in last year.

Re: Liveaboard in Tampa, Florida area

I would recommend checking with the St Pete Municipal Marina now. If the wait is very long it would be a good idea to put your name on the list now. If you don't want the slip when it comes up they'll just move on to the next in line. This is a great location.

Re: Liveaboard in Tampa, Florida area

Check out Little Harbor in Ruskin. I looked at a couple boats there in June and the liveaboards I met loved the place. Appeared to be plenty of slips. Quite new

A good idea might be to use Google Maps on Satellite View and scan the shoreline. A good guide might be to also look on Salty's Southeast Cruiser's Net. Here is their charting/marina map: Cruisers’ Net Marine Map | Cruisers' Net

I second Regatta Point...plus they have a pool, small gym and very nice Captains lounge.
