Re: Liveaboard in NEW CALEDONIA

I am an Australian citizen and I'm thinking of buying a lagoon 421 in New Cal. If I buy it settlement will be around mid december 2017. I would like to leave it there until April next year before I sail it back to Oz, two reasons:
Don't want to take it back during the Cyclone season.
Need more time to sell the wife to pay Oz customs.
I am finding it hard to get a straight answer about where are the Cyclone rated marinas and how much will it cost to berth a multihull from December 2017 to April 2018.

Any ideas would be welcome Cheers

Re: Liveaboard in NEW CALEDONIA

There are three marinas in Noumea: Marina Moselle, Marina Sud and the CNC yacht club marina. There is no "cyclone rating" there that I am aware of. All three marinas are usually fully booked for the cyclone season. I suspect that you will be hard pressed to find a berth in any of them at this time. There is a hard stand at Nou Ville Plaisance, but it is usually fully booked.

AFAIK these are your only viable choices. Good luck!

Frankie46:

There is an English speaking woman who helps foreigners work *stuff* out. At Marina Moselle, they will know who she is and how you could contact her.

If the cat is already in a berth, perhaps you can arrange for it to stay there till April.

Sorry to hear your wife is not on board with your plan.

Ann

Dave, I'm pretty certain that was the source of your problem. However, I'm sure your Bugel will work a treat.

Re: Liveaboard in NEW CALEDONIA

Ann,
My wife is still with me.
The boat is on a "sales" berth once sold it's out. I have spoken to that woman in Port Moselle, she suggested I call Port De Sud, did that and the harbourmaster told me I could stay for 15 days on the visitor berth then bye bye. He did suggest I try to find an owner who wants to let a berth in the marina.

Thanks for the info anyway.

Regards,
Frank and wife

Given you’re subsequent comments, it’s clear you’re not selling your wife. So I guess this is auto correct gone rampant. If not selling the wife, what are you selling? Do you also have duty to pay on the import?

Please let us know how you get on finding a place for your boat. Good luck.

Had the same problem because the pin had become worn, replaced the pin and problem solved.
