Liveaboard Clear Lake TX area/Cruising Galveston Bay?

Just joined and can't wait to spend more time looking around this wonderful site!

My main questions tonight(1st one most important) are:

1. Are there liveaboard marinas in the Clear Lake/Kemah/Seabrook areas?
2. Is there decent weekend cruising/gunkholing in the area?

It appears as if I might have a career move there. If this happens one option we are considering is me living aboard for a few months to make sure I like the new opportunity before I move the wife and two sons there. If so, we would buy a home in the area once ours in Alabama is sold, but my living aboard during the week and flying home on the weekends until then might be the right approach.

I look forward to any comments or suggestions!

1. Yes, tons and all with different amenities and personalities so you are pretty certain to find one that matches what you want in a marina.

2. Not so much. If you are happy to go out, anchor out and go home in the am, there are a few options. If you are looking for a quiet cove where you can anchor and swim, you are pretty much out of luck.

According to our marina listings, several of the marinas in that area allow liveaboards. There's normally an additional monthly fee ($75-$100), and often they have a minimum boat size allowed for liveaboards...something you might need to consider if you already have a boat or are in the search. Good luck!

Just about every marina in the area allows live-aboards. However, they do charge a separate live-aboard fee. After all you are using the facilities more than non-live-aboards. I have been in this area for about 7 years and have lived aboard in Marina Del Sol, Waterford Harbor Marina and currently at Blue Dolphin Marina.
Send me a private message and I will give you my cell number.

The gulf's water in Kemah and Seabrook is brownish; I wouldn't swim in it. Seabrook is a resort town, about a mile away from Kemah; a decent place to live in. Kemah is less picturesque, but it has all the facilities you need at a slightly lower cost; would not be my choice for living there, unless on a very tight budget.

The nearest place with water that I would consider swimming in would be Florida.
Good Luck with that.
