80% of our income cut by condo we have mtge on/car bill and what ever comes with it/19 year daughter that will stay in the condo and try to pay her utility bills, but somehow I see us helping her with it, another 21 year old that lives alone but needs push here and there and third teenage daughter that wants her first car!!!!

So we'll have to work while we live on the boat. We own boat free and clear but we'll need to maintain it, 1974 45' wooden power cruiser. We said why not; we have to work while we are on the land too, why not work while on the boat. Work 3-4 months in one place, cruise month or two to the next place we like, then work again 3-4 months and move on. There are always jobs that nobody wants (cook in McDonalds...cashier at Home Depo or whatever is out there, clean, cook, contract, clean boats)
There are ways to do this!

I think I found someone to crew with me and will be cruising on about $900/mo (what I am contributing). Shouldn't be that hard, consideriong I am used to living on next to nothing anyway.

Drew a graph with the money I had going down to zero when I am 80 years old ( have to die at 80 or the kids have to feed me) still above the line, never been so relaxed or happier! My Old Man is late 70's. and is thinking of slowing down with the boating lark - by buying a sailing boat

Obviously no guarantee he will make 80 (or still be fitter than me ) - but if he dies broke I''ll kill him He's not allowed to visit Thailand either

I am building a 34' hard chine gaff cutter [It was going to be 32, but ...]. I will live on less than a thousand a month. No choice. But I am already doing that living ashore. My boat is cheap to build, and it looks like going into the water at under 10k in materials. I am 70 now, hopefully the boat goes in next year [unless I actually do hike the Appalachian Trail this year, or get too caught up in beach camping my 17' row/sail faering]. Unless, of course, certain politicos delete Social Security .....

living in a marina with metered electric power and two mini-storage costs me about $400/mo (almost 1/2 my income)to port.....once I "cut my land ties" that makes living aboard incredibly cheap.

welcome back, boatman!!!!
i chose a marina for the named storm season special here in a place in which i am a newcomer--i am glad i did so-- the holding in the anchorage is difficult at best and many boats dslid around in the winds of rainy season. i return to normalcy in a few short weeks......when the rates escalate. finding fish in the anchorage is much easier than in the marina, as the fishers are generous and will trade for beer.
