Lake Union marina suggestions

We're moving our boat up to Washington state next summer, hoping to find a 50' slip for a sailboat. (Draft = 7'; Beam = 14') Preferably in walking distance to the Facebook campus. We are moving from SF Bay, and don't know the Seattle area at all even though we have a cabin in the San Juan Islands.

Thank you in advance for your recommendations.

Thanks. Sorry to have been gone so long. I had a couple books to get out, and was spending too much time on the forum.

Hard to believe there aren't any Seattle sailors on the forum who can recommend a marina in Lake Union.

Ah, just be patient, they'll be along. "newhaul" is from the PNW, and there are a heap of others.

Ann

PS. Can you get in an modify your thread title? If you add Washington State in parentheses after the Lake Union, you may get better responses.

I spent a 9 months trying to find a slip from desmoines to everett
You will have to be persistent and call or email all the marinas - finally got a slip on Bainbridge Island (Winslow wharf) - many marinas do not allow liveaboards- very fluid market - keep communicating until you find a match

Re: Lake Union marina suggestions

I am not sure if this helps, but I called a bunch of marinas in that area a few months ago when I was offered a position that required less travel. My takeaway: the majority of the marinas in the area don’t allow living aboard and those that do were saying there was roughly a two year wait list...

I would try all of Lake Washington as an interm solution till you get a spot in Lake Union near Westlake.
Highly prized location

Re: Lake Union marina suggestions

Not within walking distance but the Bremerton marina always has spots and it is right next to the Bremerton to Seattle ferry. ( short walk from there to the light rail that goes up to husky stadium) .
Pm me and I will give more details. Rob SV Stephfen Ulysses.

with the new 520 floating bridge lake Washington marinas are a no go for anything over 25 or so air draft.

Initially look for a sublet at Shilshole Bay Marina. Long waiting list, but people are allowed to sublet. I lived there for almost 3 years without officially having a slip. Usually you can get one for 3-6 months. You can ride a bike to work from there if you are into that. Otherwise it will be bus time.

Re: Lake Union marina suggestions

It's not clear if you are looking to live aboard or not. We just found moorage at Fisherman's Terminal for our 43' cat. I think summertime is pretty easy to find space there as the fishing fleet is in Alaska.

Regarding the 520 bridge closing access to Lake Washington, there are marinas that are north of the bridge in Kirkland and one up in Kenmore. Last time I checked the east end of the new 520 bridge had an air draft of over 65'. Still might be too low for a 50' boat.

Until we found space at Fisherman's Terminal we were down in Tacoma.

I stand corrected the air draft is listed on the dot site as 65 ft.
The temp during construction was listed as 38 ft if I iirc from my coastguard notice to mariners Pdf. ( must have been over a year ago.)
on another note there may be a slip at the boat street marina for a 50 ftter. Won't know forma couple weeks though. ( they just raised the rate to just over $800 a month for the 50 ft slip)

Re: Lake Union marina suggestions

Hi, I've been looking at all the Puget Sound/Seattle live aboard moorage option and it's really hard to find. There's an average of 2 year wait list but I did read that subleases are sometimes possible. You could call to get really current info. Hope this helps. Susan
