Kids Sailing in New Zealand

We're looking for some cruisers with kids that are currently out and about in New Zealand. Where are you all hiding at the moment, how do you go finding other kid boats while cruising?

We're months away from buying a boat still but hope to be out there this summer

I'm surprised you haven't been inundated with replies, Kiwis are mad keen sailors. What part of the shaky isles do you live in, and where do you plan to sail?

Yes, I thought we were all mad crazy on sailing also, maybe so much so we don't have time to read the forums?

We're in the North Island about as far away from the sea as you can get Ohakune. But looking at selling up, buying a 40 foot(ish) yacht and doing some full time sailing. (with money left over in the bank and a steady income from investments... don't panic!!)

Being an Aussie I had to laugh at this. You're 50km from Whanganui, not exactly a major trip.

I sailed from Newcastle to Christchurch in December, the trip through French Pass was a life changer. Best of luck to you, sailing's a blast.

As the crow flies . About 100 via the back road through Raetihi or close to 200km via the main roads. (Spent many years at Waiouru when I wore a younger man's clothes).

If only the trip from here was "as the crow flies" If you spent some time in Waiouru you've bound to have visited Ohakune where we are many times. House goes on the market this month, doing the last of the tidying up (worst part of selling a house!)... Then begins the wait as the price drops monthly till someone bites

Want a house in Ohakune?

Already got one in Wairoa, 4km from the river entrance at Hawkes Bay. Cost me NZ$15,000 ... gotta love NZ.
