Key West Liveaboard Marinas

I'm looking for anchorages in Key West for a 40-50 ft. Monohull. From what I've found so far, the rates seem extremely high, which is understandable since Key West is very touristy. Some are $40-50 per foot per month... Is this the best that I am going to find? I want to be as close to downtown as possible, and definitely on Key West, not another key. Would I be better off just living in a mooring field?

If you are definitely set on living in Key West, you have to consider the City mooring field.

When I was there last there the mooring field $320 a month , which includes pump out and the dinghy dock. you could just anchor out, and the green turtle charges $6 a day for dinghy dockage , but you would be right downtown when you landed.

Have you thought about the northern Keys or Biscayne/Miami area? There are much cheaper options here and still a great sailing community.

Hard to find a good place in Key West to anchor/moor. Lots of traffic and not much protection from wind and waves. Boot Key Harbor is a much better harbor for protection. Basically the same price as Key West for mooring. If you have to stay there I would look for a private dock.
