I agree with Kenomac. The type of problems that you might deal with are related to the system design and maintenance. Sure, I've had events,- clogged head, macerator failure, leak at a fitting, but the mess is about as difficult to deal with as changing a baby's diaper!

The woman lives on a houseboat with a regular house type 1.4 gallon flush toilet that you'd purchase down at the Home depot. Basically, she's pumping out an indoor septic tank, not even closely related to a system installed in most yachts.

I'd say you have to work pretty hard to screw up this badly. Regular maintenance and basic vigilance around the head should allow most people to avoid getting into anywhere near this kind of shyte.

Although, it does make me appreciate my composting head even more .

My take-away on this has nothing to do with what living aboard is like. What amazes me, is that people take the time and trouble to record and upload some of the weirdest stuff. In this case, faced with the task of cleaning up a load of sh*&, and making repairs, their first impulse is to record and share.

Not saying they shouldn't do it...just that it'd be the last thing on my mind.

No, its not like that. 99.999% of the time its all fine. (say one hour per year is bad)

But when something goes wrong you have to fix it there and then! 7:30am is FINE. 2:30am is more of a pain in the butt, but you need to do it.

And, I have a lil rule for myself: Do the job properly, do the job once.
In this case she has not done the job properly. She has left her partner to clean up the spill in the bilge.
I don't know what floaties in the bilge would do, but anything is possible starting with getting inside the bilge pump and clogging it for the next time you are sinking and need it.

Do the job properly, do it now, do it once.

I envy what you have. If I could think of a way to present my wife with five gallons of liquid sewage slurry and have her compare it to a couple ounces of desiccated solids, I'd maybe have a foothold for debate, but as of yet I haven't been able to convince her to even discuss composting heads.

I need some manner of good presentation. ...... 'hey honey, look at this!

Maybe it will come with a visit to a very nice vessel with a well functioning composting head. I've been aboard some, but she's just using her imagination.

Get her a cat and litter box. Within a week, her tolerance for scooping dried poop will be high.
