Is There A Reason For This?

I found a cast iron or lead fish in my bildge. Does anyone know what this if for or it's purpose? Because if you're an Italian it's not a good sign! haha

Re: IS THERE A REASON FOR THIS?

If it is in fact lead it could be a downriver weight. Most likely a zinc though. I would start checking for corrosion and bad grounds as those are generally used as a last resort when owners can’t figure out why their underwater metals keep corroding.

Re: IS THERE A REASON FOR THIS?

It’s a zinc. I found two on our boat. I found an electrical leak, tiny, in the windlass. Hard to keep galvanizing on the chain. I added a neutral interrupt. We leave the windlass isolated now unless it has to run.

Defender says it’s aluminum.

Re: IS THERE A REASON FOR THIS?

Aluminum and Zinc are equally popular as sacrificial anodes. Aluminum has the advantage that also works well in fresh water. You can still say "I replaced my zincs" even if they are aluminum... :-)

I rather resent the Italian remark. Many would find this to be raciest. Aj Addeo

So sorry, not intended that way. I'm Italian and never thought of that, but I guess it could be.

I'm part Norwegian and love Scandinavian jokes. Does that make me racist?

If you have scrolled down on defender page you will see similar fish made of magnesium and zinc...

I'm 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Polish and make fun of myself all the time. This dude is just sensitive about his nationality.
