Port Washington, NY. 20-30 mins from the city, and close to some side jobs that are funding the endless upgrades.... and they sure do seem endless.

I think that also factored in some of the liveaboard costs the marina has from us - extra trash, more water and electricity used, seeing our ugly mugs on the dock all the time.

To add my three cents worth: I bought the smallest Sears model dehumidifier about five years ago, and it has been GREAT. It is rectangular and fits nicely into a cavity cut-out on the outside of the galley sink base. I keep the humidity at about 45 to 50% - it handles that with ease. There is an option to attach a hose to the water container to allow it to drain (or in our cases, to a sump of some sort). I have not used this function; why you might ask? Because that is distilled water that it 'makes'. An added side benefit.

Dehumidifier condensate water is NOT like distilled water, is NOT suitable for drinking, and MAY contain microbial contamination, fungus spores, dust mites, dust, and/or aluminum deposits (leached or dissolved from the aluminum fan coils).
From a biological standpoint it's pretty nasty stuff, although it IS a source of demineralized water

Also beware of simple distillers which can concentrate VOC's (volatile organic compounds) found in herbicides and pesticides. A proper distiller actually works like a cracking tower to ensure only water is condensed w/o any VOC's.

How do you determine the quality of bottled water ?

We live on the B.C. coast sort of 'out of the way' at a small private marina. Our boat is 35'. We pay 130.00 CN. a month including hydro. There's an wild oyster bed a stones throw away. We can row out for five minutes and catch dungeness crad, halibut, rock cod (the best of the best) ling cod, prawns (ho hum). There's a rumor that the moorage is increasing to 150.00 a month! There's no way I'll pay that!

Those prices are nothing!! You should be grateful you're just paying $130.00 CN. Even $ 150.00 CN.

Here in the USA. We pay prices like $150.00 US and up. Especially the liveaboard slips!! More money!! And I'm only talking slip fees. Not mooring fees!!

In 2000, we were paying $650/month for live-aboard (C&C29), in Ft. Lauderdale - included cable TV, 30A 120V pwer, parking, and and small storage rm (100 cu. ft.?).
