Re: Induction cooktop

Neat arrangement. How do you power all of that?

Re: Induction cooktop

At the dock on shore power, while offshore we have a generator. Mostly we use our 3000 watt inverter and 1600ah lithium house bank. The inverter will power 2 items at the same time but to add a 3rd requires the use of the generator.

Hum, why 1600ah? I would think half that in Lithium batteries would be more than enough?

I hate gas almost as much as I hate gasoline. But I have to admit, a burner is pretty cheap, if you can get propane easy and cheap. Me, my fossil fuel cooker is a Butterfly brand primus knockoff from St Paul Mercantile. Burns diesel or kerosene quite nicely. Doesn't do well outside in a breeze though. Stove was $55, I think. All brass. I have burnt out one burner assembly ($18) in the last 4 or 5 years. Have to preheat the burner with alcohol before lighting off, but I keep everclear on board anyhow.

My alternate cookers are an electric pressure cooker / crock pot, cheap at walmart, and a cheesy little electric hot plate from big lots, $9.99. Looking at induction, though.

Re: Induction cooktop

We cook using an electric induction cooktop and infrared oven because we need to run the generator daily in order to charge the batteries. The generator wants to see a max load, so during the time it runs, we cook, make water, heat water and run the fuel polisher. Basically, our cost to cook is near zero since we use surplus electricity while the generator runs.

We also have propane and butane for use on the Force 10 stove if needed, but haven't used in over a year.
