Re: How far do you have to go to have an adventure ?

Tayana42,
Nothing wrong with cruising the Channel Islands, especially the northern group. Have you been out to San Miguel? I have sailed out of the Santa Barbara/Ventura for years and still find excitement and new discoveries. Having sailed in Mexico, and Hawaii, it's hard to beat our local offerings, empty anchorages (no charge), great diving (a tad cold) kayaking, a National Park, great harbors and towns to explore as well. If you need information PM me or check my blog. and web cip.bz

The definition of adventure is, when things go wrong. Hopefully, no adventure just great sailing.

There are multiple definitions of adventure. In Webster's this is definition number 2.

2 : an exciting or remarkable experience <an adventure in exotic dining>

That is the kind of adventure we prefer to engage in. And that kind can be available to you anywhere.

Re: How far do you have to go to have an adventure ?

if adventure was only when things go wrong, then what is cruising...is surely not life gone wrong..
life is a series of adventures, each and every one of which is meant to be LIVED.
adding a negative to adventure takes away the reality of adventuring, in which case, why even bother trying to adventure......think about it...if it were so bad, WHY THEN DO FOLKS ENJOY IT SO MUCH (adventure)

We are having magical experiences wherever we go. Dolphins, whales, wild buffalo, moonrises, interesting people.

We are still committed to living aboard for at least a year. Then we will see what comes next.

So, my question is, how far from home do you have to go to have an adventure?

If you sail across the harbour and get it wrong that will be a bad experience.
If you sail across the harbour and have a load of fun and no problems that will be good fun. Its not the distances we traven but the journey we make and the people we meet on the way

If you're like me, you only have to turn around and the adventure begins! That isn't far at all!

The futher I go the less adventure I want.

You could go to Gloucester, thats where the Schooner Adventure is now.

All your adventures happen at your location. Some chase the far adventures and miss the present.

I'm not seeking adventure, I'm much more interested in having fun!

Guys (and Lady) the difference between an adventure and an ordeal is attitude and perspective.

I love adventures but sadly as I grow older those adventures happen less frequently.

Let's get going then. Please post new avatar with a turned around view. I'm as adventurous as the next old geezer. Make my day.

Adventure is one of the things you WANT to avoid when sailing with a friend of mine.... His wife once asked while we were enjoying an awesome ride to the island on his boat.... (in my best Russian accent) "Maybe vee make treep veethout adventure?"

Adventure for him is a bad thing... like losing a stick and holing a deck on a new purchase... blowing out sails... losing an anchor on a mooring... fracturing ruddershaft WAY offshore... mixing elbow disintegrating... bilge tank fuel leak...

I admit it, I was there, but not for the photo alone.

She's a sailor with enough sense to buy a boat with 2 hulls, and I was curious how she came upon this enlightenment. However, there was no bio and I'm still in the dark.
