How Do You Amuse Yourself Whilst At Anchor ?
Besides the other half what do you have aboard to amuse yourself whilst at anchor?
It seems a lot of people read and a kindle is becoming the "must have" accesory.
I know we have two guitars and a yukalalee and others also carry something musical to play or at least try to play.
We have the usual cards, chess, backgammon.
What do you use to amuse yourself whilst at anchor?

Same as the above.
There's also taking tours on shore. We liked to hire a taxi driver to take us around to see the sights and tell us some of the local history. Getting together with other cruisers for dinner ashore or, more frequently, snacks and drinks on someone's boat. Oh, and crossword puzzles or suduko while stretched out in the cockpit after lunch.
We never got bored.

Clean stuff, fix stuff, cook, play baglama, knit, swim, fish, read, chat to neighbours, but mostly study the numerous conflicting weather forecasts.

Read, swim, enjoy alone time with the misses, relax under boom tent and nap....I always try to get the maintenance done before going. I am not a full time cruiser (yet)so we only anchor for 3-4 days at the most in one spot.

Re: How do you amuse yourself whilst at anchor?
Of course fix things along with other mundane tasks like getting water, food cleaning, laundry, fuel, monitoring what neighbors are up to ,checking weather, thinking about and planning the next leg,,chatting up a friendly cruiser, watching the next weather system coming through, planning dinner, going ashore for a hike to the library, picking up crew, calling home etc. etc..
The list goes on and on but my favorites are reading and just being where I want to be.

Read, swim, fix things and staring. Lot's of staring. Could watch Osprey fish for hours. Nature is my entertainment for the most part.

Gambling--i.e.make bets on other people's anchoring techniques.
"I'll betcha 10 bucks that guy drags into that trawler's rhode behind him."
"I'll betcha $5 he's not gonna get a set the first time he drops..."
"I'm bettin it takes him 3 tries or more to get a set at all!"
"Oh Shoot! I'm bettin we better keep a boat hook and few fenders loose on deck!"

Re: How do you amuse yourself whilst at anchor?
Well, we start with trying to anchor in the far corner (far from ukuleles, kids and dogs).
Then we try to get some sleep.
Then we grab binocs and judge the chances of shore exploits. If shore seems inaccessible, we turn the binocs at our neighbours.
Cheaper than kindle or dvd rental but nearly as amusing.

Re: How do you amuse yourself whilst at anchor?
I really like listening to music and looking around, maybe while casting a small lure for distraction. I won't call it fishing, just casting.

Re: How do you amuse yourself whilst at anchor?
For fun I cross stitch sometimes while watching a DVD, read, and ponder... pondering takes almost as much time as routine maintenance/improvement projects. I'm seldom bored and generally always busy with something -- even if it's surfing the 'net or checking email (and connectivity loses it's import after a bit too as I'm so busy having fun)
And of course there is the afternoon nap... having the time to luxuriate is truly a blessing. Enjoy!
