Re: How do I quiet a squeaky fender?

Somehow, the OP reminds me of a documentary I saw many years ago about Rolls Royce cars. They interviewed a maintenance technician who was on his knees struggling to fix what he described as a "noisy carpet". It turned out that one of the pedals was rubbing on the carpet, and that was the loudest noise in the car. It was amusing, hence I recalled it.

Point being, I suppose, if the loudest noise is a squeaky fender, then perhaps the skipper and crew should sleep well. It means there's nothing seriously wrong with the boat, the weather or the anchor..

Re: How do I quiet a squeaky fender?

Point taken, Chris! I feel so blessed that I found such a nice old boat. I know zilch about cruising or living in such a small space. But, I am up to the challenge.

Attitude of gratitude.

CF Boater1: I heard there was a storm coming so I put out a bunch of fenders.
CF Boater2: Did you use tampons or testicles?

I think this forum has hit a new low. Keep up the good work!

It will only work on a two sided slip. Those are rare.

Maybe if you try putting both ball fenders in one pant leg?

Re: How do I quiet a squeaky fender?

I take some old towels and put them between my fenders and the hull ...helps if you wet them with the hose too.

Re: How do I quiet a squeaky fender?

Cylindrical fenders are also quieter if you're using a fender board against a piling rather than hanging a cylindrical fender in a horizontal position.

Re: How do I quiet a squeaky fender?

Has anyone yet mentioned tying/knotting one's own fenders out of rope, old school style. Use manila or hemp if you want to be full on authentic.

Huh? What? Would that be an example of this Marlin Spik Seamanship I have heard of? Hmm. I will have to whip out my Google on that.

Re: How do I quiet a squeaky fender?

OK, I found them. Fantastic, another project. That's not very nice.

But, they look so COOL! Never seen anything like that. OK, it's on the list. Right after I restart my heater, wire my V-berth with shore power and rebuild my tiller.

This beats mowing the lawn, hands down.
