I just helped a friend raise a sunk boat, and haul it to the dump..... that he sold ten years ago! The guy he sold it to never transferred title, moved aboard and lived on it for a decade. It sunk, he disappeared, and my friend was on the hook for a $250/day fine as the last REGISTERED owner!
Moral of the story: go to the tag office and make sure the title is transferred!
