BTW- my business is based at Alameda Marina, I rent inside dry storage space there for my inflatable boat, dive gear, tools, anode inventory etc., so I stand to lose a lot if redevelopment happens. It behooves me to keep my ear to the ground and know what is going on.
I know...we've bumped into one another on a few occasions. My Hallberg was the next dock ramp over when I was berthed there.

Yes, I'm aware.

Was that de-zincification of the prop due to not having a zinc on the shaft, or is the wiring suspect in that marina?

Like most issues, there is a sweet spot. The other guys in the marina deserve to be protected against derelicts, as does the marina. This is not unreasonable. What does seem to me to be unreasonable is people who suggest that their dream is above critical thought. Those people with the dreams and derelict or nearly derelict boats can be a problem. Though I have to admit it was a tradesman's mistake that sunk a powerboat near to us in a marina, one time, so it is not ONLY derelicts that are a problem.

Considering that the boat had been neglected for years, I suspect the former. The Alameda Marina has no dock wiring issues that I am aware of.

Ann

Unlikely that galvanic action caused this, much more likely stray current corrosion from his own boat.

That's the truth......that was the final straw for us, moving out of the right price but quirky marina that put a family of three living aboard a derelict 26' boat with a huge dog on our finger.

Re: Help Marina Wants Out Of Water Survey

I thought about moving the boat to a marina closer to my home town. One marina required the usual insurance etc but also required a less than one year old survey showing the condition of the zincs.

That's about as ridiculous a requirement as I've ever heard of.

I hate to have to post what should be obvious, but why don't you ask the marina what it wants to see on the survey?

Nobody here knows what they want, we can only guess.

Isn't the liability really with the owner? Couldn't the marina go after the owner if his insurance wouldn't pay up?

Soooo.... You broke the poor blokes propellor...

No, I'd say that propeller was already well and truly broken! Fstbttms just saved him the trouble of finding it out for himself, and perhaps doing some damage, the first time he tried to put it into gear.

If the marina requiring an inspection is satisfied with an inspection by a member of their staff, that is all that would be needed.

It might not satisfy you but if it satisfies them, that's the end of it.

What do you have against this ancient, honored and reliable style of rigging?
