Question Haulout in Spain/Portugal

Requesting information on places to be hauled out for overwintering in Atlantic coast of Spain and Portugal. Would also like to know if DIY work on the yacht and liveaboard is allowed

Try asking your question over at the Anything Sailing Forum. The owner of the forum (and very frequent poster) is Portuguese and sails out of Cascais:

Re: Haulout in Spain/Portugal

i just got back from a delivery to Ribadeo on the north coast of spain, and had a quick look at the boatyard, which has a 40 ton travel lift, rates were reasonable, about 1000 euros for 6 months, and a lift was 200 euro aprox.

nice clean facility, beautiful location, but not sure if living on board is allowed, though apartments during the winter are cheap to rent,300-400 a month.

the marina was also very cheap 56 euros for the week for an 8meter yacht

I used Gelves. Work on boat was allowed. Winter was cold.

Re: Haulout in Spain/Portugal

There is a large boatyard on the Tejo River opposite from Lisboa. Sorry I can't remember the name.
Cascais would probably be expensive for winter storage. The space is mostly controlled by the shops in what they call the Technical Building and I suspect DIY opportunities would be limited.
Sopromar yard in Lagos does allow DIY (or did in 2007) and was fairly reasonable.

Portimao is good... lifted there a couple of times to work on boats.
Lots of services and a couple of chandlers... live aboard no worries

Povoa de Varsim is very cheap.
Close to Oporto.
Many people live aboard and DIY fixing.

Hi, I have just left my boat in faro "Bruce's yard". You can live and work on your own boat. Cost is 0.60 euro per metre per day, electric is included. 8 euro in taxi to the airport. If you need any info just ask.....
