Re: Gotta have it!

The most-used, must have 5 items on my boat that I would be totally bummed if they disappeared are:

1) Myerchin knife with the marlin spike
2) Spanner wrench for the fuel/waste and water caps
3) Winch handle
4) AeroKroil
5) Sailing gloves

Re: Gotta have it!

I've been sailing for 45 years + some time as a kid. I have never needed to use a knife for lines on the boat. Maybe just lucky. My tools are all in the nav station, a BIG tool box, separated by a kitchen drawer divider, always at hand.

Sailing: autopilot

At rest: ale & Guiness, beer is so pedestrian...

Re: Gotta have it!

cell phone now for the nav and weather apps, but they are so easy, they kinda seem like cheating.
clamp-on beer holders, with appropriate beer included... chips and salsa
my really nice sailing gloves

Re: Gotta have it!

On our boat, the coffee pot is very important.
Jim always carries a knife.
We each have our own head lamp, used on every night passage.
The working tool box, my go-to place for screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
Bandaids, etc. Have you ever worked on an engine that didn't open your skin one way or another?

Re: Gotta have it!

I keep a 12 bit ratchet screw driver and 2 crescent wrenches in the Nav - get used a great deal.
Love my Dick's Sporting Goods knee pads - great for sailing and deck work. Knife in my right pocket and knife sharpener in my right pocket. Speaking of pockets - my cargo/sailing shorts with large durable pockets. Headlamp is great for night sailing and looking for things on the bottom of dark lockers
